Chief Technology Officer
TacWorks Assistive Technology LLP
Description
-
TacWorks develops assistive devices for people with blindness. Under brand name of "Squirrel Devices", we are developing and marketing geometry instruments for blind students. I co-founded TacWorks with Pranay Jain, also a grad student at MIT. Our first product “Tactile Caliper” is available in the market.
-
Tactile Caliper is a geometry instrument for blind students. It enables them to measure and draw with a resolution of 1/16th of an inch. The readings are displayed through a mechanical Braille display. Auditory cues are generated on movement between adjacent readings. Tactile Caliper is a completely mechanical device with no electronics or batteries required.
-
I worked on engineering and product design process to take the product from a concept to production stage. I contributed to development of designs and models incorporating Design For Manufacture (DFM) and Design For Assembly (DFA), and also in working with suppliers and manufacturers for production runs, assembly, and quality
-
Tactile Caliper is currently on sale through our sales and distribution partners.
